About Research Project
The objective of this proposal is to design effective models and systems for shared mobility systems, with the eventual goal to provide viable solutions, from both operational and technological perspectives, to sustainable transportation and logistics in smart cities. The scope of this research plan encompasses: 1) real-time matching of supply and demand in ride sharing platforms; 2) dynamic fleet repositioning in vehicle sharing systems; 3) optimizing workforce allocation and routing decisions for shared delivery platforms.
The proposed research focuses on the three types of shared mobility systems by considering both their common nature of resource “sharing” and the distinct operational characteristics. The data rich environment in the shared mobility systems calls for need of data-driven optimization models that can be solved and implemented in real time.
The proposed research will study the shared mobility systems from a logistics and economics angle, and provide effective optimization models that can be applied in practice to assist complicated decision making, and provide real-time operations control.Potential Impacts and Deliverable : This work is capable of generating long-term impacts on education, industry, and environment. The project contributes to the training of industry professionals through the NUSBBA and MSBA programs.
The outcome of this project will include research publications in the operations research areas and facilitate the revolution towards efficient operations in shared mobility systems. We will also develop optimization frameworks with partnership companies that can be applied in practice. Finally, the project mentors and supports student researchers in operations research with applications in shared mobility systems.
