Wu Lan has done an excellent job as an instructor for the Modeling Uncertainty course at SUTD this summer Throughout the course, she demonstrated patience, deep knowledge, and strong teaching skills, which also reflects the high standard of NUS Ph.D. students. She earned the highest teaching score among all new instructors and has been recognized with an Outstanding Teaching Award.
Sun Zeyu (Lecturer, Engineering Systems & Design, SUTD)
This summer, at Zeyu’s invitation, I taught an undergraduate statistics course—Modeling Uncertainty—at SUTD. The course covered core discrete and continuous distributions and their real-world applications. SUTD’s class design differs from NUS: sessions are highly interactive, with frequent group discussions and use cases. I spent much of each class circulating, answering questions in real time. Each week also included one session I led and one I observed (with another instructor leading), which gave me a valuable chance to learn from more experienced teachers and compare styles.
I was fortunate to work with a cohort of young, creative, and passionate students. Their energy made the summer memorable. I’m grateful for the opportunity—and for the teaching award, which is a real encouragement to keep improving my teaching.
