ORSS Best Student Paper Competition

Submission Guidelines

We are excited to launch the first ORSS Best Student Paper Competition, held in conjunction with the Analytics for X 2025, as part of the ORSS 50th Anniversary celebration.

This competition seeks to recognise outstanding student research conducted in Singapore that demonstrates originality, methodological rigour, and significant theoretical and/or practical impact. Submissions will be evaluated based on innovation, clarity of presentation, and potential contribution to the field of Operations Research and Analytics.

 

Eligibility:

  1. Applicants must be registered students at a university in Singapore as of January 2025.
  2. An applicant must be a (co-)author in at most one paper submitted to the competition.  More than one applicant per paper is allowed as long as they are eligible (in which case the award would be split).

Submission:

  1. Submit an Extended abstract to the Analytics for X 2025 open-call and Indicate your preference to participate in the ORSS Best Student paper contest.
  2. If you are eligible, we will reach out to you for a full paper after reviewing the Extended Abstract.
  3. Submission deadline for full paper will align with the open-call decision announcement on August 22, 2025.
  4. The full paper should be in completely anonymous form and PDF file format, and strictly compliant with all submission formatting standards of the INFORMS journal. The main paper cannot exceed 32 pages, including all references, tables, graphs, and appendices, when typeset using either the Latex or Word style files for M&SOM. In addition to the main paper, you may submit, an online supplement to the paper of at most 16 pages. If you submit the online supplement, the paper and the online supplement must be submitted jointly as a single file.

 

Awards:

Two winners will be selected—one in a theoretical track and one in an applied/practice track. Each winner will be invited to present their work at the conference and will receive:

  • A certificate of recognition
  • A cash prize of S$300
  • A complimentary two-year ORSS membership
