At institute of operations research and analytics,We leverage and mobilize NUS’ existing strengths in various diverse discipline to create integrated capabilities in modelling and computation.
The goal of our research program is to conduct cutting-edge basic and applied research on the optimization, analysis and management of the service systems include model formulation, algorithm design, analysis of the service strategies and software development.
To develop and advance the fundamental knowledge in the field of OR and Analytics and use these tools to improve our understanding and management of the three classes of important service systems which includes all important pillars every aspect of the singapore economy.
Our new multi-disciplinary academic program that focuses on the development of new foundations and methods to address these complex societal and business problems, using Operations Research and Analytical tools.
IORA will be organizing seminar series from 2nd Feb 2018 onwards to 13th Apr 2018. We encourage all IORA faculty members and students/RFs to attend the seminar to get to know each other’s work better and to foster potential collaborations through discussion and engagement.

George E. Nicholson Student Paper Competition is held each year to honor outstanding papers in the field of operations research and the management sciences written by a student. Zhi Chen is the finalist with the paper "Tractable Distributionally Robust Optimization with Data". The paper is co-authored with Professor Melvyn Sim (Department of Analytics & Operations, NUS Business School) and Peng Xiong (Institute of Operations Research and Analytics, NUS).
Zhi Chen received his PhD from the Department of Analytics & Operations, NUS Business School, 2017. He has been advised by Professor Melvyn Sim and his primary research involves decision-making under uncertainty using tools of Robust Optimization, Satisficing Theory, and Markov Decision Process. Prior to joining NUS, he earned his B.Eng from Tsinghua University, China.
The 10th Singapore National Research Foundation (NRF) Fellowship (Class of 2018) is awarded to our IORA faculty member Dr Vincent Tan who is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) and the Department of Mathematics at the National University of Singapore (NUS). The NRF Fellowship provides opportunities for early career researchers from all over the world to lead impactful research in Singapore.
Dr Vincent Tan research interests include network information theory, machine learning, and statistical signal processing. He has authored a research monograph on Asymptotic Estimates in Information Theory with Non-Vanishing Error Probabilities in the Foundations and Trends in Communications and Information Theory Series (NOW Publishers). He is currently an Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Communications and the IEEE Transactions on Green Communications and Networking.
