Lee Kong Chian Graduate Scholarship
The Lee Kong Chian Graduate Scholarship ("Scholarship") was established from donations received from the Lee Foundation and is the University's most prestigious scholarship award for graduate students who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership and a commitment to service.

The selection of candidates will take place twice a year, in time for the start of the academic year in August and January. Up to 5 new Scholarships will be given each year. Not all Scholarships will be awarded unless there are candidates of sufficient merit.


The Scholarship is open to candidates of all nationalities who meet the following criteria:

  • have graduated with an undergraduate degree with at least Second Class Honours (Upper division) / Honours (Distinction) or equivalent;
  • have been offered admission to a doctoral research (PhD) programme at NUS, but not yet matriculated; and
  • must be eligible for MOE Subsidy1

Award Amount

  • A monthly stipend of S$3,5002;
  • Tuition, examination fees and other approved fees at NUS;
  • An annual book allowance of S$500;
  • An one-off air travel allowance of S$3,000 (for students admitted from Semester 2, AY2015/2016); and
  • An one-off laptop allowance of S$1,500.


2Monthly stipend of this amount takes effect from 1 August 2015. In addition, Central Provident Fund (CPF) contributions shall be provided to Singapore Citizens at a rate pegged to the prevailing employer's contribution rate set by CPF, on top of the monthly stipend received.


Award Period
The Scholarship is tenable for one (1) year in the first instance; and thereafter may, subject to the awardee’s satisfactory progress, be renewed each semester at the University’s discretion. The maximum period of the Scholarship is 4 years.


No bond is required.


Application Procedure
Upon receiving the call for nominations, the relevant office shall evaluate and nominate suitable candidates for this scholarship.


Notification of Award
Successful candidates will be informed of the outcome of their applications sometime in May (for August intake).


Terms and Conditions
Successful applicants will be required to sign a letter of undertaking agreeing to observe the terms and conditions for the award of the Scholarship.
